Faith

Safe in my daddy's hands

Picking up from my initial post, we go right into faith.  Faith is absolutely essential for someone to live and lead and effective life.

Faith: Something you believe in – “A martyr dies for his or her faith”

Faith: Complete trust or confidence in someone or something

Both definitions are essential for us to live a live worth living. Is it required to have a set of ideals or something/someone to believe in? Absolutely. A person devoid of a faith belief system is like a ship with no anchor. They float from place to place on the waves of emotion and time and fail to identify a distinct destination. Without an anchor, a ship has a limited number of options- run aground, stall in the ocean, or give in to the agenda of the seas. A ship that’s run aground has met its end without the ability to go on anymore. A ship that stalls for a significant period of time will eventually capsize. And a ship that gives in to the current is at its mercy. Without something or someone to believe in, we all run at risk for the aforementioned dangers.

To a child, “My daddy is stronger than yours” trumps any other truth. Because in a child’s world, that’s all that matters. Anything and everything can go wrong but in the end, a child believes that their daddy can save the day. Even if that daddy is Michael Scott. The point being, faith is having complete trust (child-like) in someone that is bigger than ourselves; bigger than our world.  Oswald Chambers makes this statement, “Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time.”

In order for us to live and lead an effective life, we need to place our trust in a God who is bigger than our world with all its problems and worries. Being anchored to a temporary unstable source is not the answer. Being anchored to God is. You may not know all the answers but rest assured, it’s much better when your life is in the hands of the One who does.

Brain food: Re-evaluate your faith. Do you have one?  Is it anchored to a temporal source or a permanent one? Are you willing to place your faith in the hands of the One who matters?
